ESL Activity: The Uhm Game

Hi bloggers, in this post you will find an activity for oral production. It may be suitable for intermediate or advanced learners.

You only need a bag with different topics written on pieces of paper.

-Instructions-
1) The teacher chooses a student to go to the front.
2) This student takes out a paper from the bag.
3) After that, he / she has 1 minute (or the time you wish) to talk about that topic, but he / she cannot say 'uhm' or any other filler word while talking. When he / she says 'uhm' the teacher stops him / her and chooses another student.

The process is repeated with the whole group and the one who did not say 'uhm' is the winner. You can make it more dynamic by having all the class talking about the same topic for 15 seconds each one of them without saying a filler word.
