Of course you will not need a real ladder, it is just the name of the game. However, the class should be a large one and if you have flashcards, you can use them.
-Instructions-
1) The teacher asks students to make two lines.
2) Then, the two lines sit down on the floor. Make sure there are the same number of students in the lines. After that, the teacher asks students to touch the feet of the classmate in front of them.
This will be the ladder.
3) The remaining student (or students, in case there are not enough students to pair up) goes to the back of the ladder (facing the board) and waits for the teacher's call.
4) The teacher shows a flashcard (or says aloud the word).
Immediately, the student should jump through the ladder by stepping on the spaces between his/her peers.
5) When he/she reaches the board, he/she has to write a sentence with the target vocabulary or grammar point.
If the sentence is correct, the whole group gets a point. If it is incorrect, there is no point.
The group has to reach 10 points to receive a reward (candies will work well).
The game continues by having all students jumping through the ladder one by one.
The purpose of this game is to have them collaborating in order to achieve a general goal at the same time they practice and review the lesson's topic.
